Advancing years and a personal mobility problem have made me consider other ways to continue my hobby in 1/6th Dioramas by downsizing to the Toy Soldier world of 1/30th scale.

You will see that my 1/30th Dioramas break from the limitations that our 1/6th shoots impose upon us by reason of their size and the manpower needed to erect and dismantle in a day but they do follow a similar theme.

The smaller scale means that they can be developed over a longer period and tend to grow with the continual aquisition and construction of figures and buildings.

Please look at them as an extension of my Militaria Interests but not detracting from my original involvement in the 1/6th community.

This is standard size at 8ft x 4ft and depicts a small French Village under attack from U.S. Forces against a firmly entrenched German Kampfgruppe.

    AFRIKA KORPS

This shows a small North African Village occupied by D.A.K. and Italian Forces. This measures 14ft x 3ft but is fast outgrowing its space. In the background the British Long Range Desert Group is shown infiltrating behind the lines. This Dio is the only one that is in the house.

    BATTLE OF THE BULGE
September 2005

U.S. Forces are defending the ruins of a small town against surrounding German Troops. This Dio originally contained both sides in the conflict but due to congestion had to be split into 2.

    NAPOLEONIC SKIRMISH

I am not a great collector of Napoleonics so this is a relatively small sideshow. Recent additions however will mean it has to be transferred to a larger board.

    NORTHERN EUROPE
September 2005

This is the largest Dio at 10ft x 8ft and shows German forces in Defensive Action in Normandy & Northern Europe. The town is badly damaged as a result of Allied bombardment but in the rear areas can be seen a High Command Conference.

    WINTER SCENE
September 2005

With the passage of time and the availability of new types of equipment and figures this has become more of an Eastern Front scene. The use of flour for snow is very effective but has its drawbacks when the scene was recently attacked by hungry mice which were fortunately repelled by quick counter measures. I can recommend mouse paw marks as an ideal way to texture the snow to look most realistic.
